Background: Wiki link!
Personality: Initially, Antoine was a somewhat selfish and arrogant young man who was terrified of his own shadow. Raised on beliefs that bravery and heroism were things you could inherit, not earn, he believed things would happen without him having to do much work. Obviously the princess would fall for him, obviously he'd be a fearless hero, and obviously all will go well for him. And obviously none of this became true - the princess was annoyed with him, he fled from the first sign of trouble, and the kingdom he was supposed to protect was invaded by an evil maniac. Suffice to say this was a heavy blow to his fragile ego and ideology.
However he did do the right thing, despite his fears - he did protect the princess, and he continued protecting others. This wasn't just because of his duty, but because it was the right thing to do. For all of his egotism, he did have a good heart and genuinely didn't want to see others hurt. But he was so blinded by his own self-loathing that he couldn't see his own good nature. To compensate for his fears in battle, he turned up his vanity and haughtiness to an almost unbearable degree, which only made things worse. He didn't even enjoy puffing up his own chest like that, he thought it was expected of men to do, and that if you said you were brave enough times, it would come true. It didn't, and he hated himself even more. Thank goodness he met Bunnie!
Once he realized how deeply she was struggling, and yet how she never gave up, he was inspired to put aside his facade and be his true self. As a result, he became far less selfish, and found himself making friends he cared for very deeply. Yet he still found himself terrified in battle, and didn't understand why until Bunnie pointed out that fear and bravery can go hand in hand - for all of his fear, he STILL went into life risking battles to save others! Antoine had spent so much time loathing himself he'd never seen his own good points, until Bunnie showed them to him - and as a result, he fell for her hard, and made her his wife. His love and devotion to her has never been questioned, and she is a major part of his life. She is still his inspiration, and he considers himself the luckiest man in the world to be with her.
The Antoine of today is very ashamed of his past attitude, and is almost an entirely different person. He goes out of his way to help others, and has a deep affection for those he once thought of as inferior - the best example would be his relationship with Sonic the hedgehog. As kids, Sonic would tease him, and Antoine considered him a ruffian, but now they are best friends. They still rib each other, but only in good fun, and when Sonic started becoming the Werehog, Antoine was very concerned for his companion, and insisted that Sonic not blame himself when he couldn't be there for his friends. He still calls Sally "princess", not as a sign of how distant they are (as they're also good friends) but because of how deeply he respects her and the royal bloodline. He's a sweet guy, when he wants to be.
He's still afraid in battle, but not as much as when he was younger, and he doesn't let fear dictate his life. He's become so comfortable to the routine of fighting and rescuing that he can even smile and say clever quips while in danger. He's not above teasing his friends, either, as long as it's harmless. As a result, he still has an ego, and will even lie and say he isn't as scared as he really is. But he keeps it toned down enough that it doesn't become aggravating all the time, and he enjoys his flair for the dramatic.
Abilities:
Antoine's favored method of fighting is with his trusty sword. However he is also skilled at hand-to-hand combat, learned from Bunnie, and can even do an effective sword-spin dash, as learned from Sonic, where he can roll into a ball and spin around, hitting his targets while slicing them up. He can adapt to new weapons fairly easily, and he’s an excellent pilot. He’s also a great cook.
Alignment: Thras. Bravery and cowardice have 'controlled' much of Antoine's life. To his friends, he can easily be described as one or the other, and for a long time he thought these things couldn't go hand in hand. However he's now at a confident point where he knows it's okay to have them both, and that one may even be necessary for the other.
Other: Despite the 'all languages translated' concept, I'd still to keep his accent, and his often amusing misunderstanding/mishandling of the English language.
Sample: I have included two samples, as I was unsure which would 'fit' better for the application, and ultimately decided having both couldn't hurt.
Sample A : Crystalnet
[Antoine's proud face appears across the various minds of Empatheias, accompanied by one of the human residents.]
Bonjour, my friends! Eet ees one, Antoine D'Coolette, leader of ze Empatheias branch of Freedom Fighters! As I was looking upon ze Task Board, I came to ze aide of... Who are you again?
Warrent Fed-
[The coyote cuts him off.] Sir Warrent! He was needing help taking care of his beloved father's sword. A most noble deed, eendeed! I could not help but be reminded of my own papa... but, why am I telling you zis? Because eet occurred to me - many of you don't even know how to be wielding one! So I have decided to be starting my own sword lessons.
... So, you are going to help me, ri-
[He cuts him off again, maybe not even hearing the boy.] Eet will be easy for me, and beneficial for you all! Een fact, I have taught many of my allies back home ze finer arts about ze blade.
[As his usual 'exaggerated stories' spiel begins, Warrent, and no doubt you, begin to notice some of the plant life being affected. They twist and curl into uncomfortable positions, shaping off of his arrogance. Grass blades resemble corkscrews, tree leaves bend unnaturally. Antoine, however, is oblivious to this as he talks.]
Een fact, I have taught ze beautiful princess, ze young and ze old, and even passing acquaintances, and now zey are all masters! Eef you are feeling intimidated, do not be doing so. Anyone can learn! And I can teach anyone! Have faith in both yourself, and myself!
[By now, Warrant has understandably walked off. Antoine keeps babbling on, and only when he mentions teaching all species, intending to gesture to his human friend, does he notice he's now alone.]
... Hey! Don't be leaving when I am not finished! You wanted ze task complete! Get back here! I know you are hearing me!
[As cracks of anger appear underneath his feet in the soil, he chases after the boy, and ends the transmission.]
Sample B: Third Person
Antoine had slowly but surely become adjusted to the strange floating island, which he often mused would suit Knuckles perfectly. While he still missed his beloved wife and friends, he had made due with making new companions - and exaggerating his role in his home world. They didn't need to know that technically Sonic won the battle tournament, and Antoine's "great important strategy" was just him cheering from their base. Yet by now most of the residents had noticed a 'tell' whenever Antoine had these stories - it was small, but his feelings of arrogance, combined with itty bitty tidings of guilt, would often cause a some blades of grass to curl upwards and darken, or the clouds above them to tinge in patches of obnoxious grays. The coyote himself had only recently discovered these tells, and a light patch of rain followed his humiliation.
So when Antoine had gone to the Task Board and discovered a post about teaching a young man how to take care of his father's old sword, many had assumed he had eagerly headed that way to spin more slight falsehoods. Maybe some ridiculous yarn about how he'd cut down ten trees in one slice. Yet if they had actually been paying attention to the path Antoine was headed towards, they may have noticed the flowers beginning to blossom where his footsteps once were. The real truth was, the moment Antoine had read those words, his heart had swelled with enthusiasm and familiarity. The beautiful art of swordsmanship, and the loving relationship between father and son, were things he actually had experience with. He'd also never really had a chance to talk to anyone about these favorite subjects.
So when he arrived to the young man's house, he ignored the usual stare of his animal appearance. Instead, he gave a respectful bow, one arm to his chest, treating the human with all the dignity of a nobleman. "Bonjour, good sir." He stood up tall. "I believe you are ze one who wished for help een treating his father's sword with all ze respect eet ees owed..." He allowed himself inside, and when the door closed, he smiled. "Before we are beginning... why don't you tell me about your father?" If he noticed the warmth of family now beginning to grow in the humble home, he said nothing of it.
